European Patent

Last update:

Already in 2010, the Commission proposed to launch enhanced cooperation in the area of unitary patent protection. The European Patent is a system that allows inventors to obtain patent protection for their inventions in multiple European countries through a single application process. It is not a single patent itself but rather a unified procedure for obtaining patents in multiple European countries. The European Patent Convention (EPC) established the framework for this system, and the European Patent Office (EPO) administers the process.
