Veterinary drug residue monitoring programme

Description of the programme/policy

This programme involves collecting samples of food of animal origin and analysing them to determine the presence of residues of veterinary drugs. Through this programme, it is also aimed to ensure transparency in the production of food of animal origin and to build consumer trust in the quality of the food they consume. The programme is implemented in cooperation with veterinary institutions and other relevant organisations to ensure adequate supervision and control of the production of food of animal origin.

Main objective of the programme/policy

This programme aims to ensure the safety of food for human consumption, prevent the presence of harmful substances in food of animal origin, and ensure the proper use of veterinary drugs for the protection of animal health.

Specific objective of the programme/policy

  1. To ensure that food of animal origin consumed in Montenegro is safe and healthy for human use.
  2. To prevent the presence of harmful substances in food of animal origin, such as antibiotics, growth hormones, pesticides, and others.
  3. To provide reliable information on the presence of residues of veterinary drugs in food of animal origin to food producers and other interested parties.
  4. To raise awareness of the proper use of veterinary drugs and good hygiene practises and management of animal waste for the protection of animal and human health.
