REINFORCING, funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe, spearheads the shift towards open and responsible research and innovation (ORRI) practices across Europe. In the pursuit of fair and inclusive transitions, the project advocates for collaborative efforts, emphasising the importance of sharing research outputs early and engaging citizens in co-creation processes. By serving as a central hub, REINFORCING offers resources, training, and networking opportunities, empowering organizations to embark on or advance their journey towards creating an inclusive R&I ecosystem. Through its second open call, REINFORCING focuses on incubating ORRI within the Balkan region, inviting institutions to develop projects aimed at implementing new modes of R&I that drive just transitions.
The main beneficiary of each consortium (minimum two partners per consortium) – the newcomer implementing ORRI actions – must be established or operate in the Balkans area, which includes the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia. The partner can be established in any Member State or associated country to Horizon Europe (including from the Balkans), privided they do not have a conflict of interest with the REINFORCING consortium.
Successful proposals will receive up to 60.000 euros to implement 12-months projects.
Applicants are required to complete an online form and a template to be submitted in the submission page. Proposals should not be longer than 10 pages and applications exceeding the limits or including further sections will not be considered.
The call addresses specific challenges, including enhancing ORRI understanding among researchers, fostering supportive institutional environments for ORRI practices, and strengthening relationships within R&I ecosystems. Projects funded through this initiative are expected to lead to evident institutional changes towards ORRI and promote collaboration with external partners. Applicants are encouraged to propose activities such as introductory workshops, mentoring programmes, and networking events, aiming to introduce ORRI principles and drive institutional transformation.
REINFORCING seeks to support eight projects, marking a significant step towards a more open and responsible R&I landscape in the Balkans.
